Who is Limerick Pride?

‘LIMERICK PRIDE IS A VOLUNTEER LED NOT FOR PROFIT COLLECTIVE WORKING TO PROMOTE POSITIVE VISIBILITY OF
LGBTQ PEOPLE AND THEIR COMMUNITY IN LIMERICK.’

What is PRIDE about?

LGBTQ (GAY) PRIDE is a global movement that celebrates Gay culture and history by creating an annual carnival atmosphere of
events that centre around a festival Parade. People are encouraged to be as colourful as possible and to feel free to express themselves
to the wider community.

Why PRIDE?

We are fortunate to live in a pluralist multi cultural society where freedom of expression is both encouraged and expected. Many persons take issue with the need for GAY PRIDE and question its relevance in a modern world where attitudes to sexuality have moved on.

Western society however, still views a persons sexual orientation as a significant social identifier. In short the world is built on the
assumption of heterosexual norms. For LGBTQ people the experience is quite different. We grow up invisible as children at school.

We can be invisible at work unless its in a field of expertise considered 'gay'. PRIDE is all about celebrating the fact that we are EVERYWHERE in society and a vital living part of the community that makes up the fine city of Limerick that is also our HOME.

We are Family too!

Limerick PRIDE aims to promote;

EQUALITY,LOVE, DIVERSITY,CELEBRATION.'
