Welcome to the PSA Ents and Events

posted 19th Aug < back to all events

Postgrad events and Ents are as varied as the people they aim to entertain. Over the next year I hope to offer as broad a selection as possible and if you think there’s something missing get in contact and I’ll see what we can do. Here’s a quick glimpse at what you can look forward to.

Starting in WEEK 1 there will be the official opening of the newly renovated PSA Common Room with a DJ and wine reception – lets start the year off as we intend to go on. The Common Room is an area to chill out, to eat your lunch and to socialise in -the new design hopeful allows it fulfil all of its duties while still looking good. Ill have more details on opening closer to the date toWATCH THIS SPACE!

This year the PSA has teamed up with eightball promotions and The Release Party @ Aubars of Thomas Street. Every Friday night “The Release Party is solely focused on the dancefloor, the people that fill it and then filling that floor and those people with a good feeling.” We hope to extend the Release Party to run every Thursday and Friday night and there’s a discount for allPSA members so just flash your UL ID and off you go.

In conjunction with the Stables Club, Friday night is always Postgrad Night; why not meet up here first before heading into town? Again details to follow.

The UL Arts office will be running its Film Season slightly differently this year with theme nights, and there will be at least one specifically targeted forPSA members.

Some of you may find that most Ents target the majority and forget about you, while that will always be a problem it doesn’t mean we can’t try and fix it. I want anyone who is interested in hosting any sort of event in the Common Room to email me at psapresident@ul.ie whether it is a poker night or a comedy gig is up to YOU.

While going to University is never easy it is more difficult for some and if there is any way that the PSA can help and support you just ask but in the mean time there will be coffee mornings aimed at getting mature students and student parents in particular to meet other students in a similar situation.

Throughout the year my aim is to build up an active and engaged Postgrad community in UL. Ents are only part of the picture but a necessary and fun part. The highlight of the Ents calendar for PSA members is the PSA Annual Charity Ball and this year I intend to make it bigger than ever and raise twice what we gave last year – and that can only be done with your help.

Remember the PSA only has one employee – the President and so depends on your involvement. The role of PSA Ents officer will be up for election in thePSA Executive elections in September. This is a key role on the Exec and needs development and I’m more than happy to work closely with whoever the next officer will be. If you are interested get in contact.

That’s all for Ents news for now but remember the PSA depends on your involvement – if there’s nothing happening that you’re interested in – change that by getting involved.
