HAVE YOUR SAY IN YOUR PSA
The Postgraduate Students’ Association AGM is taking place on Tuesday Week 5, October 5th @ 13:00 in the PSA Common Room.
So what’s going on at the AGM?
· Election of Exec, Faculty Reps & Working groups
· Constitution review (should any amendments be proposed by you before tomorrow) to view the constitution, click on link
What is Exec?
Exec governs the PSA and consists of 6 officers. These are the PSA President, Vice-Pres/Treasurer, Publicity, Community Relations, Events and Mary I Rep.
The role of these officers is defined by the Constitution. Here is a brief overview.
o Vice-President/Treasurer: second in command in the Association. Helps provide guidance of the association and co-ordinates the activities of Association representatives on Faculty Boards. The position is also jointly responsible with the President for all financial matters relating to the Association.
o Publicity Officer: Be responsible for publicising all meetings and all social events of the Association.
o Events Officer: generate ideas for events, helps the president to plan and coordinate events.
o Community Inclusion Officer: jointly responsible with the President for all issues relating to the inclusion of postgrads through events and activities of the PSA.
o Mary I Rep: ensures that the views and issues facing Mary I students are represented effectively. (This position has already been filled)
Any questions, then please contact me
The election of positions takes place during the AGM by those attending. Only registered postgraduate students may vote and take up a position. Should more than one individual show interest in a position, then there will be a hust between those interested for a specific time period. There will be a vote and should there be a draw then the deciding vote comes down to the PSA President. (full details available in the Constitution)
Faculty reps?
As their name suggest. They represent their faculty on issues arising in their respective faculty. I would like to have a faculty rep for both researchers and taught to ensure that all postgraduates are being represented equally.
Working groups?
Should there be a need for a particular group to be established then please inform me immediately. Currently there are four working groups and these are:
- 1. Events
- 2. Research students
- 3. Class reps
- 4. Student parents

Constitutional review?
If you see something in the Constitution that you believe needs addressing, then please let me know and we will discuss it at the AGM. If I receive any proposed amendments then I will include these in the agenda. If there are no amendments then the AGM will simply be the elections. Constitution available here
Hope to see you all on Tuesday week 5 in the Common Room from 13:00pm
