EHS faculty needs postgrads to sit on Ethics Committee

YOU may be aware that the UL ethics regulations have changed over the summer, with ULREC being replaced by ULREG, and decision making on ethics applications being devolved to faculty committees. The main group submitting applications to this committee will be postgraduate researchers within the EHS faculty. It is appropriate therefore that there is a postgraduate representative on the committee, and this is encouraged in the new UL operational guidelines for research ethics and governance committees.
The EHS Ethics Committee is looking for is a postgraduate student who is familiar with human experimentation (perhaps a research MSc or PhD student) and who is willing to devote time to ensuring that the faculty research complies with good practice in ethics. The primary purpose of REC’s is to protect experimental volunteers from unethical or unsafe research. For this committee, they would need a PG student from within the EHS faculty (departments of graduate medicine, PESS, therapies, nursing, education, psychology).
They would also need a “second” for the representative – i.e. a replacement who can attend when the first person is unavailable. The committee is likely to meet monthly 10 months / year (every Month but July and August).
