ISSP Tighten Purse Strings?

The ISSP (Irish Social Sciences Platform) provides funding to a number of UL postgrads but these recessionary times may see that funding pool dry up.

Many of you had been expecting paid teaching positions for tutorials but have recently learned that that may not be the case.

It appears that many of you in the Languages and Cultural Studies Dept (LCS) may still receive payment for tutorials while many in sociology may not. Its early days yet but you should be aware now. Even if you are lucky enough to receive payments for teaching this year, you can be sure that you will be next.

Postgrads have had ongoing problems with the terms they must teach under for years now. If you want this finally sorted out then contact the PSA President.

I am hoping to set up a working group to discuss what can be done by the PSA on the issue of postgrad teaching. If you are interested (and anyone who teaches tutorials should be) then please email me at psapresident@ul.ie
