Deputy President and Treasurer
Hey guys,
Welcome to the UL PSA! I'm Gerard Fogarty your Deputy President for 2010/11. I was delighted to be elected to this position for the year, I'm looking forward to working with Dan and my colleagues on the Executive to do my best to represent you the postgraduate communityon any problems you might have and to promote the work of the PSA and fight for issues affecting you postgrads!
I'm from Thurles in County Tipp and I'm studying a Masters in Law here in UL and also studying Tax Consultancy. I did my undergrad in Law and Tax at LIT where I served as Publications and Communications Officer in the LITSU and Education Officer before that. I also served as my Class Rep for three years and was Chair of the Class Rep Council. In my spare time I enjoy volunteering with some charities and other organisations I'm involved in.
My main role is to work with Dan to represent your voice and drive issues affecting you postgrads and deputise for him where his busy schedule creeps up on him. As well as my role as Secretary of the PSA, I am also the Treasurer, jointly responsible with Dan for the financial affairs of the PSA and ensuring your money is spent in your best interests. I am responsible for reporting to my colleagues on the Executive on financial affairs and ensuring the accounts are prepared and kept in order. For more information on my role see Article 7.2 of our Constitution.
My priorities for my term are to promote awareness of taught and research postgrads issues, increase the facilities available to postgrads, encourage relations with postgrads in other third level institutions, promote the PSA among students, ensure that you are aware of what services are available to you and what we in the PSA Executive are doing on your behalf.
I hope that you enjoy your time in UL and that you make the most of that experience by getting involved in the PSA, writing for An Focal, being a class rep or by joining a club or soc. There is something for everyone, if not well do something about it!
Remember, were here to represent you, please feel free to email me if you want to be involved in the PSA in some way or have any problems.
Keep up to date with us - dont forget to join us on www.facebook.com/ulpsa and check www.postgrads.ie regularly.
Best of Luck!
